Happy New Year! Does anyone else love to see a new year roll in? I love a fresh start and love planning our adventures and travels for the upcoming year. I want to encourage you to do the same. So often, life gets busy and school schedules and sports or work take priority over making time away for family getaways. This year, don’t let that happen. Just take the family trip, you’ll be glad you did. I promise.

Why plan to get away with your family?
There are a lot of reasons why, but the main one is you won’t get this time back with your kids. I know the memories you create together will last a lifetime and they’ll be so glad that you planned that trip.
Some of our favorite memories are from a longer family trip or quick weekend getaway.

Where should you go? Here are a few suggestions:
- A weekend camping trip
- A long weekend or a week trip to the beach
- Set sail on a cruise
- A quick getaway to a cabin in the woods
- A road trip out west or to the northeast or through the southwest
- A weekend visit to a national park
- Visit a theme park and stay at a hotel nearby
- A staycation in your own city
- Stay at a resort with a water park – SoundWaves is our favorite at Gaylord Opryland
- A few days in the Everglades
- A museum trip to Washington DC
- 24 hour trip to NYC to see all the sites that you can in just a short amount of time
- Stay at a local Airbnb and play games all weekend. Here are a few of our favorite Airbnb’s – just go to @thewanderingtuckers on Instagram and click on the “Airbnb Faves” highlight.

Where are we headed this year?
We plan to head to one of our favorites again this year – Grand Teton National Park. Also, I’m sure a trip to the beach will be in store for us this fall as we always do. My husband and I try to get away a couple of times a year just us. Last year, we visited an all inclusive resort in Mexico that was so quiet and only had 10 other couples there when we visited – we love the laid back, chill resorts over the loud and crowded ones, so this one – the Viceroy was a hit in our books. I think we will probably go back this summer again.

So, where are you headed this year? It doesn’t have to be anywhere far or expensive. Just make plans and take the trip. You’ll be glad you did, I promise.
